Our Resident Wildlife

One of the most unexpected joys of owning Aurora Skies Resorts has been the regular visits from our resident fox family. These creatures have become somewhat of a local celebrity, charming our guests and adding a touch of wild magic to their stay.

We typically see two foxes around our resort: a smaller, more inquisitive one who seems to love human interaction, and a larger, slightly more skittish companion. The smaller fox is particularly adventurous, often venturing onto cabin decks, sniffing curiously at guest belongings, and even posing for photos! We see the small fox often. It will sometimes look into the cabin windows and seems like like watching the guests enjoy their time inside the cabins. We think it is longing to come inside and make itself at home!

While these encounters are always a delight, we remind our guests to observe the foxes from a safe distance and to not feed them. Wild animals, even the most friendly ones, should be treated with respect and caution.

Did you know that foxes are well-adapted to survive the harsh Saskatchewan winters? During the colder months, they grow a thick, insulating coat to protect them from the cold. They also become more active during the day to conserve energy.

Foxes are denning animals, meaning they create burrows for shelter and raising their young. These dens can be found in a variety of locations, including under rocks, in abandoned burrows of other animals, or even in dense vegetation. We are quite sure these foxes have made their den on the golf course in the sand pits!

Christmas Cabin Getaways

December 27, 2024

This past Christmas season was truly a magical time at Aurora Skies Resorts. As first-time cabin rental owners, we were overwhelmed by the warmth and joy that filled our little corner of Shell Lake.

Scenic Spot in Shell

We think Memorial Hill is one of the best hidden gems in the area! It is approximately 1km from our Shell Lake cabins and makes for a comfortable walk, or a quick drive with a conveniently close parking lot across the road specifically for those visiting Memorial Hill.
